Hear the Wind is a song where the accompaniment came before the melody and the words. It was inspired by and written specifically for the BEVREANNA TRIO. (BEV-Beverly Ray, RE-Anna Marie Cox, and ANNA-Joanna Williams.) This beautiful young trio started singing together when they were Sophomores at Mesa High School.

I was sitting at my piano in our home at 222 W. 8th St. and looking out the corner bay window. To improve my skills I was taking piano lessons from Ron Sirrine, a young boy that grew up in Mesa First Ward and that I taught in Primary. As I was doodling on the piano playing with some of the new techniques I had recently learned my fingers, quite by accident, played a chord. Oh, how I liked the sound of that chord! I played it again and again and said, “Anna Marie would just love this chord.” I played it again and then I let my fingers move.

I looked out the window and the wind was gently blowing the leaves of the mulberry tree, and the clouds were gently moving across the sky. Suddenly, I was singing …..and I was playing…..

“Oooooo, oh, hear the wind. How it blows, how it moans as it calls to me, come and fly with me, and blow high with me, and I’ll blow all your troubles away.”

It was a wonderful, fun experience. I was amazed how the music just seemed to flow out of my fingers. I absolutely love to play “Hear the Wind” and love even more to hear it sung as a trio. When I sit down at the piano today, the very first chord that I play is, “Hear the Wind.”

Hear the Wind

Oo oh, hear the wind, how it blows,
how it moans, as it calls to me,
come and fly with me, and blow high with me,

and I’ll blow all your troubles away,

Oh Hear the wind, how it blows to the mountains, how it blows to the sky,
I feel the wind ’round me brush my cheek, kiss my lips, touch my eyes.

I look up into Heaven, as the Wind blows by my face, All my cares seem to float o’er the trees with the breeze.

Oo Oh, Hear the Wind, how it blows,
how it moans, as it calls to me, come and fly with me, and blow high with me, and
I’ll blow all your troubles away.

Hear the wind.
